The Mutupo/Isibongo golf tournament is set to introduce the UK edition starting next year after a successful two years on the local golf scene in the country.
In three weeks’ time the event will be staging its 2023 finals penciled for Royal Harare Golf Club and Police Golf Club on November 24 th and 25 th respectively.
At least 21 totems have participated in the second edition of this unique golf initiative which celebrates culture and identity through sport.
Tournament director and founder Ephraim Mashingaidze revealed that the event has spread its wings into the diaspora.
“We are glad to advise you that we will be introducing the Mutupo/Isibongo golf UK in the 2024 golfing season. Preparations, discussions and engagements are at an advanced stage. In fact we have secured the dates and the venues for this tournament.
“We are engaging our colleagues in the UK. Our colleagues saw this product on various media platforms and they asked us to come and host these tournaments in the UK. We are going to host this tournament in the UK on the 20 th of July at Kings Golf Course and on the 21 st of July at Earls Golf Course. These are two golf courses which are close to each other, maybe two or three kilometers apart.
“We are going to have other golfers of African origin playing in the tournament. We have a lot of Zambian, Malawians, Nigerians and Kenyans who are going to play in the tournament. We are also going to publish the tournament early if we have any golfers from Zimbabwe who would want to and play, there is an opportunity.
“Once again we say it’s not about competition but an engagement opportunity so we are saying we are going to engage the diaspora through the Mutupo/Isibongo golf event. I think it’s a fertile platform for our brand partners to graduate and start engaging international possible partners, stakeholders and clients. It will not end there, we will then visit other continents,” he added.
The Mutupo/Isibongo golf tournament is an event where golfers compete based on their totems.
