CHICKEN INN . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0
CRANBORNE BULLETS . . . . 0
CRANBORNE Bullets coach Nesbert Saruchera was a satisfied man after his charges salvaged a point against Chicken Inn in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Luveve Stadium yesterday.
Saruchera's team is known for playing a beautiful passing game, but they struggled against the Gamecocks, who also lacked cohesion in the lukewarm encounter.
In the end, a draw was the fairest result.
Saruchera celebrated the point that they gained.
"I am very happy we managed to get a point from the former champions. It's a very big achievement. I am quite happy with the way the boys fought. We are in the right direction at the moment. We are fighting hard. We have managed to introduce some of the new guys and they are also doing well," said Saruchera.
With a bit of luck, they could have stolen the maximum points but Kingsley Mureremba was the villain of the day, when he failed to beat hosts goalkeeper Donovan Bernard in the 39th minute.
Coming face to face with the goalkeeper, Mureremba attempted a delicate chip, which sailed over the crossbar, much to the disappointment of the Cranborne bench already up on their feet.
Chicken Inn also had their own chances which they failed to convert. Malvern Hwata received a Lesley Lunga pass after half an hour but his shot flew inches over the crossbar.
Genius Mutungamiri thought he had won it for the Gamecocks late in the game but was flagged offside after receiving an intelligent pass from substitute Obert Malajila.
Prince Matore, the Chicken Inn coach was disappointed with the points that they dropped playing at home.
“We dropped two points but we knew it was going to be a difficult match. Playing at home we wanted the maximum points so that we enjoyed the home advantage. It's unfortunate we drew,” he said.
