FORMER Warriors captain Knowledge Musona has been recognised for his recent rich vein of good form by being named in the Saudi Pro League Team of the Week for the third successive time by the respected sports data company Sofascore.
Musona was at his best again when he scored a brace and contributed an assist in Al-Tai’s 3-2 win over Al Fateh in the Saudi Pro-League on Thursday.
The 32-year-old former Zimbabwe international was involved in all of Al-Tai’s goals, as he underlined his status as one of the club’s top performers this season.
Musona initially levelled the terms with a shot to the bottom corner of the hosts’ goal with just 17 minutes played after Al Tai had conceded a seventh-minute goal by Al Fateh’s double scorer, Feras Albrikan.
He then returned to provide an assist, threading a fine ball into the box to set up Congolese forward Guy Mbenza, who made no mistake from close range on the 29th minute.
Albrikan brought Al Fateh back on level terms again with 20 minutes remaining before Musona beat the keeper in added time to secure victory for his team.
The Al Tai skipper now has six goals and seven assists in the league.
Musona is the third-best player in the league in terms of assists behind Al-Taawoun’s Paraguayan star Kaku, who has 10 assists Brazillian Igor Coronado, who has provided eight assists for Al-Ittihad Club.
In terms of goals, Musona is the Al-Tai’s joint leading scorer with Congolese forward Guy Mbenza.
Musona’s goal tally of six league goals in addition to another goal in the Kings Cup and seven assists add up to half of what the club has scored this season.
He has started every game for Al Tai, with whom he has played under five coaches since joining at the beginning of last season from Belgian outfit Anderlecht.
Musona is flourishing in his second season at the club, having reinvented himself into one of the star players in the Saudi Pro League, which has been getting a lot of attention since the arrival of Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
