In a groundbreaking initiative, a Shamva gold miner has launched a women's netball programme aimed at combating drug and substance abuse, as well as early marriages, in Mashonaland Central province.
The project, which kicked off last month and is funded by Samson Paul Nyati, has already attracted over 50 young women from the region.
Nyati, who sponsors the programme, believes that sports can play a pivotal role in empowering youth and promoting positive lifestyles.
"Drug abuse and early marriages are crippling our communities," he said.
"I wanted to create a platform where young women can come together, build confidence, and develop skills that will help them make informed choices about their future."
The programme includes netball training sessions, workshops, and educational seminars on the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of education. Local coaches and counsellors volunteer their time to support the initiative.
Community leaders praised Nyati's initiative, citing its potential to drive positive change in the region.
