The Bulawayo Vendors and Traders Association (BVTA) has promised that the Nkulumane Fruit and Vegetable market will accommodate all farmers and help them access markets.
BVTA projects officer Bakani Ncube said the market will create linkages between farmers and informal traders.
Ncube said they had received complaints from farmers, especially from Umzingwane and Umguza who are struggling to sell their wares in the city.
“Construction of the market is almost complete,” she said. “What is left is for the connection of water and sewage pipes as well as electricity. Opening will take place in less than two months.”
Ncube said the market would also provide a place where people can access cheap and fresh produce.
“The aim is for the market to be a one stop shop where one finds any type of crop that they desire,” she said.
‘Despite the location being quite centralised, we are currently making plans for there to be kombis transporting people to and from this specific location as people have raised that in some areas they would have to board twice.”
