LOCAL authorities in Mashonaland West province should employ sustainable and innovative ways to improve service delivery and contribute towards sustainable economic growth.
Addressing stakeholders at an engagement meeting with local authorities in Chinhoyi recently, Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Marian Chombo said being innovative and agile in service delivery was key towards sustainable economic growth for the province.
She said council officials should shun corruption, adding that councils should employ innovation and agility towards inclusive and sustainable economic growth for the province.
“Hard honest work is imperative, shunning corruption, employing innovation and agility towards an inclusive and sustainable economic growth for our province,” she said.
“Service delivery monitoring engagements such as this one should not be an end. Rather, it should mark the beginning of many such engagements primarily because they provide a critical mechanism through which we collectively reflect, introspect and proffer possible solutions to the challenges affecting our provincial service delivery landscape.
“The purpose of the meeting was to reflect on the progress that has been achieved since the official launch of the blueprint on A Call To Action-No Compromise To Service Delivery by government in November last year.
“Each local authority was tasked from organisational, systems and physical planning perspectives to develop a road map in a quest to modernise the operations of local authorities for sustainable development, thereby contributing towards the attainment of Vision 2030.”
The Local Government and Public Works ministry recently launched a programme by the name Nhimbe/Ilima Road Rehabilitation Programme to promote service delivery across Zimbabwe.
The programme demands that all road authorities in the provinces should pool together all their equipment and second them to chosen administrative districts for maximum period of up to three months to upgrade and maintain all roads in that specific district.
