AN accounts clerk with Gushungo Holdings, a company owned by the late former President Robert Mugabe’s family, yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi to answer to a charge of stealing farming equipment.
The clerk, Gerald Mupatsi (35) was granted $200 000 bail. He was an accounts clerk at Highfield Farm in Norton.
Allegations are that on April 19 this year, he connived with Jabulani Dumbura, who is on remand, and stole a combine harvester, and head trailer from Highfield Farm.
He sold the combine harvester to Mark Deza of Capensis Farm, Norton, for US$1 400, a price which was below the reserve price of US$3 500 pegged during an auction which was done in February this year.
He did not receipt the sale.
The combine harvester was recovered.
On April 28, he allegedly stole a wheel-mounted water pump, and took it to one Mutanga in Damofalls, Norton.
It was not recovered.
He is accused of stealing several other farm implements valued at US$70 000 that were not recovered.
