ZIMBABWE has won a bid to host the 7th Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of Africa (CJCA) congress in 2024 after Gabon and Mozambique withdrew from the race.
In a statement, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) said preparations for the major event attracting at least 48 countries were already underway.
Zimbabwe was nominated to host the event at the just-ended 6th CJCA congress held in Rabat, Morocco, last month.
“That is, indeed, a vote of confidence in Zimbabwe’s constitutional transformation and recognition of the progressive programmes that the Judiciary of Zimbabwe is undertaking. It is also set to boost the country’s tourism sector,” the JSC statement read.
JSC attributed Zimbabwe’s win to Chief Justice Luke Malaba's presentation which highlighted the success story of the country’s constitutional transformation.
Zimbabwe will chair the organisation for a period of two years after hosting the conference.
CJCA has a membership of 48 African constitutional jurisdictions and was birthed in May 2011.
It seeks to promote and disseminate universal values and principles of the rule of law, democracy and human rights as enshrined in the preamble of the Constitutive Act of the African Union and national constitutions.
