NEWSDAY health reporter Vanessa Gonye has been crowned one of the primary healthcare champions in the country by the Community Working Group on Health (CWGH) in recognition of her consistency in covering health issues affecting Zimbabwe.

Gonye was among six other journalists from various media organisations who were awarded the same accolade.

The CWGH said she qualified for the title because of her commitment to promoting universal health coverage (UHC) for the achievement of national agenda 2013 and sustainable development goals (SDGs).

CWGH advocates for access to equitable health services across various population groups and social classes in the country.

Handing over the certificates, CWGH board member Maria Savanhu said: “The focus of this work was on highlighting the importance of health governance, health leadership, access and availability of health services for the achievement of UHC to enable the country to reach its national development goals enshrined in the Constitution, the National Development Strategy, the National Health Strategy as well as the SDGs. We want to honour the dedication, hard work, skill and perseverance shown by some scribes that has ensured that health discourse is visible on all media platforms to engage, investigate, inform and advocate. This will move our country forward to 2030, and is the reason why we honour you today as true champions of PHC for UHC.”
