ZIMBABWE Women’s cricket captain, Mary-Anne Musonda, is looking forward to the training camp in India after shrugging off a knee injury that saw her miss the Regional T20s that were played at Harare Sports Club and under lights for the first time in a historic occasion for women's cricket.
Musonda, though nursing her niggle, turned up for every match supporting the girls and teammates in the pavilion.
“I sat out for all three T20s because I had a niggle, I had a knee injury so I had soreness around my knee but I’m hoping to be good to go come Friday (today) and Saturday and also enjoy playing with the girls,” Musonda told NewsDay Sport.
The 32-year-old has 11 One Day Internationals under her belt scoring 192 runs at an average of 19.20. Her crowning moment for the Lady Chevrons was in October 2021 when she scored her maiden century, an unbeaten 103 against Ireland as Zimbabwe made their ODI debut at Harare Sports Club.
Musonda has also played 37 T20Is for Zimbabwe scoring 571 runs in 32 innings, an average of 23.79 and a highest score of 60. She has garnered lots of interest globally playing for Scorchers in the Women Super Series in Ireland, KwaZulu-Natal Inland Women in South Africa and Tornadoes Women in Fairbreak Invitational Tournament.
Musonda leads a tentative squad of 16 for the tour of India and departure is scheduled for October 25.

“The build-up to the Indian training camp and to the qualifiers, it has been good to see the girls training hard and applying themselves. We started with the two-day games into One Dayers and then the T20s, the brand of cricket we are playing is definitely getting better. It’s not the same cricket we were playing maybe a season or two ago,” she added.
“You can see guys really understanding what they want to do and applying themselves and coming up with plans and adjusting to conditions and I think this is what training is about, this is what preparations is all about and so come the big stage we are hoping that we will be as prepared as possible and we would be ready to take on teams in the African Qualifiers and the Global Qualifiers so I can’t wait for those qualifiers to be honest with the way people are handling themselves and handling their game it’s a mature brand of cricket so I’m really excited about it.”
