BULAWAYO City Council has plans to allocate industrial stands in the Kelvin East area amid efforts to revive the country’s former economic nerve centre’s industries.
“These stands were available for reallocation to other deserving applicants," read minutes of a recent council meeting.
"The applicants who had interest in starting a business in Kelvin East were to follow the necessary terms and conditions laid out by the town planning department.
“The town planning department declares that developments made by the applicants were required to be in terms of council approved building plans, complying with the relevant by-laws.“
The once busy industrial area has been turned into a white elephant with empty factory shells after companies’ closed shop or relocated.
Some of the premises have been turned into churches.
