AGNES and Jane Pre School located in Gwabalanda, Bulawayo last week engaged the services of renowned poet Albert Nyathi for a sponsored poetry class session in preparation for the school’s 30th anniversary celebration set for November 30.
The engagement was also part of the pre school’s efforts to raise funds for the event.
Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style, pre school founder Agnes Sithole (70) said the love for children, a shared vision she had with her late friend, Jane Mukaronda, led to the establishment of the institution.
The shared vision led to the birth of A & J Pre School at the Church of the Nazarene on February 4, 1993.
“We have asked Nyathi to come and help us teach our children poetry. We issued our sponsor sheets as sponsored poet sheets so that on November 30 they entertain us with poems they would have been taught in these three days,” she said.
“This is also another way of raising funds for our celebration day, as we have tried some fundraising techniques. We thought this educational one will get us help and deliver what we wish for the day.”

A & J is, however, facing many challenges which include playing space for the preschoolers, outdoor equipment, mattresses, a stove, a fridge among others. These things help in the smooth running of the learning institution.
“We believe inviting Nyathi for the fundraising initiative will help us revamp the dilapidated equipment we use. The children are failing to use their playground freely as we are scared they will be injured by the rusty equipment,” Sithole said.
“As you have noted, our kitchen needs a stove, a fridge as the health people have emphasised that we cannot keep or cook the children’s food at our homes. We are, therefore, seeking sponsors to help in cash or kind to alleviate the challenges.”
