Sprite, one of the leading beverages of the Coca-Cola Company, yesterday announced a sponsorship package for And1’s African basketball small tour, which will take place across four countries including Zimbabwe from April 20.
The United States select side’s first stopover will be in Zimbabwe and they are expected in the country on April 19 before playing a Harare select team in a one-off encounter at the City Sports Centre the next day.
Mona Karingi, the Coca-Cola senior franchise brand manager said: “Sprite is extremely proud to be associated with And1’s maiden tour of Zimbabwe, and it gives us great pleasure to provide a refreshing platform upon which lovers of the game of basketball can enjoy the live action of the undisputed kings of street balling.”
The Harare Basketball Association is expected to use matches this weekend to select the team to take on the star-studded American squad.
And1 is a legendary American street basketball group, recognised and celebrated around the world as the embodiment of the basketball culture.
Best known for their high energy action, And1 has over the years defined the urban expression platform of all things basketball.
Among star players expected to feature in the tour are Hot Sauce, Spyda, Werm, 50, Amazing, Highrizer, Baby Shaq and Airbama.
These stars have featured in various events and movies, key among them the Mountain Dew, Nike Dribbling Commercials, ESPN Street Ball Series and various Streetball Video games for PS2, Xbox, PS3 and XBoz 360.
