Dynamos fined for Chibuku final delay drama

Newly-crowned Chibuku Super Cup champions Dynamos FC have been fined US$4 500 by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) disciplinary committee following disorderly conduct that delayed the start of last month’s final.

The drama-filled match — in which DeMbare edged Triangle United 1-0 at Gibbo Stadium on November 29 — kicked off 20 minutes late after Dynamos players and officials protested over the number of match balls to be used.

Dynamos, together with technical officials Kelvin Kaindu, Thomas Ruzive, Takesure Chinyama and Thulani Muzambwa, were summoned to appear before the PSL disciplinary committee on December 11. The charges included disturbing the normal proceedings of a match, failing to comply with lawful instructions and engaging in conduct deemed improper, according to a PSL statement released on December 3.

After the club and its technical staff pleaded guilty, the disciplinary committee imposed financial penalties.

"After considering the submissions, the disciplinary committee fined Dynamos FC a sum of U$4 500. In addition, the technical officials were each fined US$300," PSL said in a statement yesterday.

Despite the setback, Dynamos went on to celebrate a historic achievement, securing a record third consecutive Chibuku Super Cup title, a feat that entitles the club to keep the trophy permanently. The champions are also set to receive US$75 000 in prize money.

Kaindu, who was among the charged officials, has since left Dynamos and was recently unveiled as the new head coach of PSL new-boys Hardrock FC.

The PSL confirmed that the fines imposed on the technical officials are personal and remain enforceable regardless of their current employment status.
