All Stars Cricket Tourney attracts Energy Park

Tournament co-ordinator Philip Kadziche expressed optimism about the prospects of the third edition's success.

THE Energy Park All Stars Cricket Tournament is set to return next month, boasting a new sponsor and an expanded scope.

Tournament co-ordinator Philip Kadziche expressed optimism about the prospects of the third edition's success.

Last year's Big Boys U19 event was won by Chitungwiza-based St Aidens, whose team included former U19 players such as Newman Nyamhuri. Nyamhuri has since graduated to Zimbabwe's senior men's team, underscoring the tournament's importance in the country's cricket landscape.

The tournament also featured Kirby Maderemete and Ryan Moyo, who were part of Zimbabwe's U19 setup last year.

Maderemete was a non-travelling reserve for the Under 19 World Cup held in South Africa. Standing at two meters tall, the seamer is a formidable pace bowler who has formed a potent partnership with Peter House Boys' Ryan Moyo at the All Stars Academy. Moyo matches Maderemete's pace, making them a formidable duo.

St. Aidens continues to produce talented young players, with Malcolm Chikuhwa nurturing a new gem in Dilon Nyamhuri, younger brother of Newman. Dilon has been in impressive form this season, remaining unbeaten while batting. He was also the player of the tournament last year.

"The Energy Park All Stars Cricket Tournament provides a competitive environment for junior cricketers in Zimbabwe," Kadziche told NewsDay Sport.

"We are proud to offer a platform where young players can gain valuable experience and potentially get noticed by national selectors."

This year's tournament will feature 186 matches across various age groups, including Under 9, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 19. The junior events are scheduled to take place from April 11 to 2, while the senior events will be held from April 17 to 19.

Kadziche expressed his gratitude to the new sponsor, Energy Park, for their support.

"Their involvement has enabled us to expand the tournament and provide more opportunities for young cricketers," he said.
