Competition will also be in 5km and 1km diplomatic race, while there will also be the veteran master, great grand master, junior and wheelchair classes.

THE Post Insurance Mr Pace Road race continues to grow with each passing year after the fourth edition of the event received international recognition from World Athletics and will now carry points for World Championships and Olympics qualification.

In its fourth year, the event, which is sponsored by ZimPost and their partners Nicoz Diamond, Global Risk Underwriting Managers (GRUMA) and the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara), is set to take place at the National Sports Stadium B Arena on May 10 this year.

Mr Pace Atheltics Club founder Collen Makaza announced the new development yesterday at the launch of their Post Insurance Promotions, which include Post Insurance Mr Pace Marathon, Post Insurance Ensure Licence and Win promotion and the last one being  Post Insurance staff promotion.

“This race has grown to become one of the most anticipated races in Zimbabwe and this year we are taking it to greater heights,” Makaza said.

“I am proud to announce that the 10km and 21km race are officially recognised by World Athletics as qualifiers for the Olympics, World Championships and the Africa Championships.

“The 10km is now a qualifier for the Olympics while the 21km is a qualifier for the World Championships and the African Championships.”

He added: “This is a big opportunity for athletes in Zimbabwe and international athletes to compete at the highest level. Last year it had two Kenyans taking part, so it was already an international event.”

Competition will also be in 5km and 1km diplomatic race, while there will also be the veteran master, great grand master, junior and wheelchair classes.

Zimpost Post Master-General Maxwell Chitendeni was delighted to be launching the three promotions, including the Post Insurance Mr Pace Race.

“In our journey, we will be launching three insurance promotions, namely the Post Insurance Mr Pace Road Race.

“We also are launching Post Insurance Staff Promotion, which is also in line with our grand strategy of ensuring that our staff gets motivated and they get that dedication as we deliver joy to the citizenry of Zimbabwe. Our last item to launch is the Post Insurance Insure Licence and Win Promotion,” Chitendeni said.

“The Post Insurance Marathon under Mr Pace Race is aimed at giving back to the community in which we are operating.

“This year, it marks our fourth edition of the Road Race and it’s also being organised under the theme Promoting Physical Mental Health Awareness and Socialisation.”

He added: “The Post Insurance Staff Promotion, which is the second leg of our promotion, will run from February to September 2025. The draw will be held in October.

“Last but certainly not least, the Post Insurance Insure, Licence and Win promotion will run from April to October 2025. There are numerous prizes to be won by our loyal customers throughout this promotion.”

The Post Insurance Mr Pace Race will be sponsored the tune of US$15 000 this year, with 50% of the sponsorship package going towards prize money for the winners.

“We are excited that the Post Insurance Mr Pace Race is now an internationally recognised event. So we are going to give 50% of whatever we are sponsoring and this year we have set aside US$15 000 for the event,” said GRUMA managing director Muvengwa Marumahoko.

“We want to move away from the habit by sponsors where they set aside a small fraction of the sponsorship package.

“This year, we have increased the prize money for the winners of the different categories from US$500 to US$700. The top 5 in the 21km race will get prize money while the top three will get in the 5km race.”

Nicoz Diamond managing director David Nyabadza and Tendai Matanhire, from Zinara, also made presentations at the Post Insurance 2025 Promotions launch.
