Zifa president Nqobile Magwizi met with City of Harare mayor Jacob Mafume to discuss the potential partnership at Town House yesterday.

THE local football governing body, Zifa, has been offered land by the Harare City Council to build its headquarters and a stadium.

Zifa president Nqobile Magwizi met with City of Harare mayor Jacob Mafume to discuss the potential partnership at Town House yesterday.

The Warriors are currently playing its international matches outside the country as Zimbabwe does not have Caf-certified stadiums to host international matches. Zimbabwe will to host Benin at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Thursday in a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Magwizi would also want to establish the association’s headquarters with training facilities after the failed Zifa Village project.

Zifa released a statement on Magwizi's meeting with Mafume yesterday.

"The Zimbabwe Football Association executive committee, led by president Nqobile Magwizi, today held a productive meeting with the Mayor of Harare, His Worship Jacob Mafume, to explore opportunities for collaboration in the development of football infrastructure," the association said.

“A key outcome of the discussions was the mayor’s provisional offer of land for the establishment of a new Zifa headquarters and stadia. This significant gesture aligns with our commitment to enhancing football facilities in Zimbabwe and fostering the growth of the game at all levels.

“Zifa welcomes this opportunity and looks forward to further engagement with the City of Harare to formalise the process. We remain dedicated to creating world-class football infrastructure that will benefit players, officials and supporters across the country.

“We extend our appreciation to His Worship Jacob Mafume and the City of Harare for their willingness to support football development. Further updates will be shared as discussions progress," Zifa said.

In its communication, the City of Harare said they were in discussion with the football body to lease one of the sports clubs in Harare for that purpose.

"The City of Harare is in discussion with the Zimbabwe Football Association to lease one of the sports clubs in the city for their proposed state-of-the-art headquarters. The sports club to be leased to Zifa will be made public soon once all the modalities are completed,” it said.
