Wolves coach lavishes praise on Munetsi

Sport
Pereira admitted goalscoring is one area that his new man needs to improve on.

MARSHALL Munetsi's blissful start to his Wolverhampton Wanderers life continues, with the club's manager Vito Pereira heaping praise on the Warriors midfielder after making his full debut for the team in their huge win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

Having previously come off the bench in the two outings against Blackburn and Liverpool, the 28-year-old, signed from Stade Reims for £16,6 million on transfer deadline day, was handed his first start and played for just over an

hour.

The box-to-box midfielder, who is being utilised in a more advanced position at his new club, provided the assist for the only goal of the game scored by Matheus Cunha.

Just like in the games against Blackburn and Liverpool, the Mabvuku-born star was presented with a golden chance to open his goal account for the club, but could not make full use of the opportunity as he fired wide from close range.

Pereira admitted goalscoring is one area that his new man needs to improve on.

But he was impressed by the overall contribution of Munetsi who he singled out for praise after the match.

“What I'm asking him to do is to help the team as a midfielder and to appear from the back into the box. And he has again a situation to score, and it was not today, but every time he appears there he has a chance to score," Pereira

said.

“But what I like in this player is the guy who can miss a goal in the opponent’s box and then after 30 seconds, he is defending in our box.

“This is what we wanted when we looked for him. We wanted to find a physical midfielder who can support the other two midfielders.”

With the victory, Wolves moved five points clear of the relegation zone.

Since making his English football debut, Munetsi has been receiving special praise from pundits and Wolves' former players alike.

Club legend Andy Thompson said Wolves had "more legs and always looked a threat" when Munetsi was in the team while former England international and Manchester City great Micah Richards, who is now a TV pundit, believes Munetsi provides "energy in the team."

The Warriors vice-captain is expected to keep his place in the starting lineup when Wolves host Fulham in a league match tomorrow night.
