Sport
At stumps, Tuskers had 328/3 thanks to the unbroken 230-run fourth wicket partnership between the two top order batsmen.

THE Tuskers duo of Tanunurwa Makoni and Will Fraine led their team’s fight back with unbeaten knocks of 140 and 142, respectively, leaving the Bulawayo side trailing hosts Eagles by just 15 runs after day three of their Logan Cup match at Harare Sports Club yesterday.

At stumps, Tuskers had 328/3 thanks to the unbroken 230-run fourth wicket partnership between the two top order batsmen.

Makoni’s best knock to date is 185 not out achieved earlier this month and he can already start thinking about bettering the record.

His 140 was spiced up with 19 boundaries, while Fraine has amassed 15 fours and two sixes.

Eagles declared early morning on their overnight score of 512/8d.

They made early inroads through bowler of the moment Alex Falao with three wickets to add to the fiver he took in the first innings.

However, after the departure of Brian Chari for 27 in the 29th over, it became a Makoni, Fraine show.

Meanwhile, at Mutare Sports Club, Mountaineers bowled out Rhinos for 321 runs.

At stumps day three, Mountaineers led by 126 runs with eight wickets remaining on 45/2.

First innings double centurion Alistair Frost (202) is as yet unbeaten on 28 from 28 balls together with Arineshto Vhezha on four runs from 16 balls.

Earlier in the day, Ben Curran scored 116 from 190 balls for Rhinos, while Antum Naqvi and Nyasha Mayavo scored identical 57 runs each.

Vincent Masekesa, poised for his Test debut against Ireland in Bulawayo next week, was the pick of the bowlers for Mountaineers.

The spinner picked six wickets for 143 runs from 32 overs, while his counterparts Tendai Chatara, Victor Nyauchi and Definate Mawadzi settled for a wicket apiece.

Both matches resume on the fourth and final day this morning.
