Losing candidates take Zifa to CAS

The Zifa leadership, Kenny Ndebele (vice president) , Nqobile Magwizi (president) and Loveness Mukura (vice president)

HARARE, Jan 30 (NewsDay Live)- Two losing Zifa presidential aspirants Twine Phiri and Philemon Machana have approached the Court of Arbitration for Sport seeking nullification of results of the elections held on Saturday citing alleged third-party interference.

The two football administrators claim that controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo tilted votes in favour of the winning candidate Nqobile Magwizi by promising vehicles to councillors who formed the electoral college.

Machana and Phiri are seeking: “A declaration that there was third party influence in respect of the election for President of Zifa which rendered the poll illegitimate. A declaration that the election of first respondent (Magwizi) as the president of Zifa on January 25, 2025 is null and void. An order that second respondent, i.e. Zifa, is to conduct a fresh poll for the position of president of Zifa within 30 days of issuance of the order.”

Besides the posh car, Chivayo also promised via a post on his social media platforms US$10 million for Zifa, only under Magwizi’s presidency. All the voters were promised brand new cars if they voted Magwizi.

Magwizi won the election after getting 61 votes, representing 80% of the vote.More details to follow . . .
