Magaya, the president of the Heart Group of Companies, aims to make women's football one of the best funded local leagues in the country.

Soccer-crazy prophet,  Walter Magaya, has increased his sponsorship for the Heart Women Premier Soccer League to US$1,2 million.

Additionally, he has pledged US$800 000 towards the revamp of the football pitch at the National Sports Stadium.

Magaya, the president of the Heart Group of Companies, aims to make women's football one of the best funded local leagues in the country.

Last season, Magaya became the first person to sponsor the women's soccer league after over a decade without sponsorship. He also sponsored a knockout challenge cup worth over US$60 000, providing lucrative rewards to teams and individual awards.

“This year, we have decided to more than triple our sponsorship for the women's league,” Magaya said.

"We joined them mid-way into the season last year and gave them US$360 000. Every sponsor needs respect for their brand and mileage, and I must say we got that in The Heart Women Premier Soccer League. We are happy to come in again and make a difference in the league."

Magaya has also set his sights on supporting the ongoing renovations of the National Sports Stadium. He revealed plans to donate US$800 000 to fund a makeover of the playing surface, drainage and other areas involved with the field.

"We are all saddened to see the Warriors and their Mighty Warriors counterparts playing their games away from home. This must end forthwith," Magaya said.

"The bucket seats are being installed and more areas need attention. If we can all chip in, in our various capacities, there's no reason why football should not return to Zimbabwe sooner rather than later."
