NORTHERN Region Soccer League side Norton FC have suspended five team members on match-fixing allegations following a 7-0 thumping of the club by Premier League-chasing club, Scottland FC, at Rufaro Stadium last Friday.
The suspended are two executive members Tafadzwa Kuyerukana and Patrick Nyamayaro, two coaches Clemence Masunda and Willard Nguwoyembwa as well as goalkeeper Brandon Bere.
Bere was red-carded in the first half when the team was already trailing 3-0 before the hosts took a 5-0 half-time lead.
Norton Community are currently on 17th place in the 20-team league, with 33 points from 33 matches and sit just above the relegation zone.
“We notify the public about the suspension of five team members with immediate effect, as of October 16, 2024. They no longer partake in any club activities until further notice. The suspensions resulted from an investigation following a review of the matchday 33 (match), Scottland FC vs Norton Community at Rufaro Stadium, over allegations of match-fixing, which violates our club policies/rules,” the club said in a statement released yesterday.
“The club takes these allegations seriously and we are committed (to) maintaining the highest standards of conduct and sportsmanship. Suspended team members (are): Clemence Masunda (coach), Willard Nguwoyembwa (coach), Brandon Bere (goal keeper), Tafadzwa Kuyerukana (executive member) and Patrick Nyamayaro (executive member).
“The suspensions will be reviewed and may be subject to further disciplinary action. The club will provide support and resources to ensure compliance with policies and rules.

Scottland are in a two-horse race for the sole ticket into the premier league next season with Norton-based side MWOS FC.
MWOS lead the standings with 72 points from 33 matches and have a three-point cushion over their rivals, who are on 69 points, but have a game in hand after their match against Karoi United was abandoned.
Scottland have already been awarded the game.
Tomorrow, MWOS are in Harare to face Golden Eagles at Ellis Robbins, while Scottland are in Chinhoyi, where they take on Chinhoyi Stars.
