CYCLING Zimbabwe has announced the team which will represent Zimbabwe at the 2024 edition of the CAC Road Africa Championships, which begins in Eldoret, Kenya, next weekend.
The continental competition will run from October 9 to 13.
Zimbabwe have selected a strong 18-member team to represent the country and is composed of athletes from various categories, showcasing a balance of both seasoned and upcoming talent.
The tournament will feature both elite women and men, Under-23 women and men.
There will be five ladies taking part in the Under-23, namely Skye Davidson, Helen Mitchell, Faith Tuhwe, Priscilla Mashamba and Andie Kuipers, who has represented the cousin triathlon.
The men’s team includes both elite riders, up-and-coming talents from the Under-23 Andrew Chikwakwa, Nkulumo Dube, Amos Chakaza, Mthokozisi Sibanda, George Ascott, Lovemore Ntini, Tinashe Marima and Blessing Gijima.
“Preparations for the event have been positive, with the team having completed a crucial three-day training camp in Nyanga,” Cycling Zimbabwe secretary-general Elsie Mahumbe said.
“This camp was essential in allowing the athletes to bond and train as a cohesive unit, honing their strategies and physical fitness in a competitive environment.

“However, despite these productive preparations, financial challenges remain a hurdle. The team is still working to secure enough funds to ensure that every athlete can participate.”
Added Mahumbe: “Unfortunately, the national federation has been unable to fully fund the teams travel and participation costs, making external fundraising efforts critical to the success of the team’s journey.”
Zimbabwe is also nurturing future stars in cycling with its junior teams, which includes Prateek Ravla, Charles Nesta, Mandlenkosi Mthethwa, Michelle Pious and Inkosinomusa Muthethwa.
“These young riders are the future of the sport, and their participation provides invaluable experience on the international stage.”
