UP-AND-COMING bodybuilder Prince Moyo claimed the biggest win of his fledgling career after he won the sixth edition of the Marume Classic senior men bodybuilding title at Zimbabwe Music College on Saturday night.

It was a memorable night for Moyo, who had earlier emerged as the best in the junior men category before scooping the big one.

The Chitungwiza-bred athlete, who was representing Harare’s Total Fitness, pipped Quinton Phiri to the senior men's title, while Darlington Mukanwa from Matebeleland South province finished in third place.

Defending champion Amon Mugala from Zambia could only finish in third place of a tightly-contested category.

It was second time luck for Moyo, who participated in the Marume Classic junior category last year and finished in third.

“I feel great after this win and I would like to thank my coach. He is the one who helped me to be where I am now. I was confident that I was going to win coming to this tournament,” he said.

“This is the first win of my career. Last year, I participated in Marume Classic and I finished third. Now my target is the Harare Classic. The ultimate dream for me is to become the best bodybuilder not only in Zimbabwe, but in the whole world.”

In the Men’s Physique, the popular Blessing Itai Sithole ruled the roost, beating Zambian Mugala into second place, while Munashe Mavenge was third.

The men’s fitness category was won by Paul Bako of Power Bank Fitness Club, while Fadzai Muponi won the Women's Bikini Fitness and Nicola Hwindingwi emerged victor in the Women Wellness class.

Founder of the event Givemore Marume was happy with how the competition went.

“I am more than happy. Everything went without any hiccups. The sponsors came and supported the event,” he said.

“The athletes came from around the country and some from outside the country. That has always been our wish to open up the borders for international athletes to come. We are looking forward to making it bigger and better.”

The event was bankrolled by corporates such as Saltrama Plastics, Premier Guest Lodge, Arc 360 Branding, Diamond Pharmacies, Govasberg Bus Services, Triceps and Tiles and Carpets.
