A STELLAR line up of foreign and local bodybuilding athletes is expected to battle it out at the sixth edition of the Marume Classic which takes place at the Zimbabwe College of Music in Harare this evening.
This year’s event will see competition in six different categories which include the senior men’s bodybuilding, junior men bodybuilding, women’s wellness, women's bikini, men’s fitness and men’s physique.
The Marume Classic is the brain child of the four-time Mr Zimbabwe and six-time Mr Ironman winner, Givemore Marume.
Marume is excited about the participation of foreign athletes as well as the overwhelming support from corporate partners.
“Everything is now in place for the successful staging of the Marume Classic, which is the sixth edition. We have an exciting line up of bodybuilders coming through, including Amon Mugala from Zambia who will participate in the men’s physique and Mutinta Muzambalika, a lady to participate in the women’s wellness. Other athletes from Malawi are going to participate,” Marume told NewsDay Sport.
Last year’s edition saw Zimbabwean Noah Dzvokora winning the senior men bodybuilding section, while the women’s bikini fitness and women wellness title went to Zambian bodybuilder Matha Ngoma, who won the double.
Amon Mugaza and Shadreck Mwaba, both from Zambia won gold and silver respectively in the men’s physique and the junior men’s bodybuilding was won by James Tashera.

“We also have the new sponsors coming on board, who are Govasberg Bus Service and Triceps, a supplement factory, so it’s promising to be a very good event,” Marume said.
“Marume classic started in 2017 and this is the sixth edition. It could have been the eighth edition, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to take a break for that duration”.
Meanwhile, former Zimbabwean bodybuilder Francis Tatanga Chideme came third at the ongoing International Fitness Bodybuilding (IFBB) World Championship in the men’s fitness category in Kish Island, Iran.
Chideme, who is now based in the United Arab Emirates, became the first Zimbabwean to achieve that placing at IFBB Worlds Championships.
