NPL T20 Blast D-Day

THE National Premier League (NPL) T20 Blast reaches boiling point, with the four top places for the next stage of the competition being confirmed today after the final round-robin fixtures in Harare.

Early pacesetters SOGO Rangers have but booked their slot in the tournament's qualifier.

The Harare newboys await the second-place team who will be their opponents in the qualifier. But, given the status quo, they are likely to be up against Takashinga Patriots 1, who have amassed eight points so far in the tournament.

However, the battle for the remaining two slots for the eliminator being played by numbers three and four is set to be a dog-eat-dog today. At least four teams are on six points at the moment. These are third-placed Rainbow Cricket Club, Gladiators Cricket Club at number four, Mbizo (five), and Westside at position six.

The four teams are separated by the net run riot. Defending champions Takashinga Patriots 2 are also in for a shout with an outside chance on four points as they currently occupy position seven, while for Queens Sports Club, who anchor the bottom with no points, the journey is all but over for them.

Takashinga Patriots 2 date Queens at Takashinga Cricket Club looking for a huge win to boost their run rate that's currently in the negative on - 0.477.

In the fixtures lined up for today, Takashinga Patriots 1 take on Mbizo at OH. SOGO Rangers play against Westside at Takashinga Cricket Club while Gladiators and Rainbow square off at Old Hararians Sports Club.

Meanwhile, Takashinga Patriots 2 posted 256/5 in 20 overs before restricting Westside to 170 all out inside 18 overs at OH to register an 86-run victory.

Rainbow beat Queens by 114 runs at Takashinga, SOGO won by six wickets against Mbizo at OH while Takashinga 1 beat Gladiators by six wickets in Highfield.
