Sort out clumsy administration, fans tell ZIFA

The sentiments by football fans were triggered by Zifa's recent appointment of little-known German coach Michael Nees to lead the Warriors.

FOOTBALL fans have demanded that the Zifa Normalisation Committee deals with administrative issues that have bedeviled the game over the years.

Zifa have had no substantive board for some time since the dismissal of the  Felton Kamambo-led administration in 2022 over poor governance issues.  The Lincoln Mutasa-led normalisation committee was appointed as a stop-gap measure last year in June and has been recently given another mandate to run Zifa affairs until January 2025.

The sentiments by football fans were triggered by Zifa's recent appointment of little-known German coach Michael Nees to lead the Warriors.

Following the announcement of Nees' arrival, NewsDay ran a poll on X, formerly Twitter, to get followers' views on the normalisation committee and the state of local football in general.

A call for a proper administration topped the poll.

The need to fix the administration polled 52% of the votes, development of stadiums garnered 25%, while the endless "worry-us" headache under a new coach option and need to employ local coaches instead of foreign ones got 12% and 10%, respectively.

Zifa are yet to get a work permit for the German coach with just three weeks before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
