A DEPLETED Bikita Minerals side held Caps United to a stalemate in a lukewarm Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Sakubva Stadium yesterday.
The Lithium Boys lost five key players during the July transfer period and were left with a depleted side, but still Caps United’s woes continued as they failed to break down the newly-promoted side.
The match started on a very low pace, with both teams failing to make meaningful raids at goal.
Bikita Minerals winger Chris Makambira made some flashes of brilliance, but was unfortunate to see his effort saved by Caps United goalie, Tonderai Mateyaunga two times in the first half.
In the second half, Bikita Minerals enjoyed greater possession, with Barnabas Mutuche, Praise Tonha and Thubelihle Ndlovu dominating the midfield.
The trio created some chances, but still the strikers failed to convert.

The chief culprit was Liberty Masvaure, who in the 66th minute dispossessed Caps skipper Godknows Murwira, but dilly-dallied in the box before he lost the ball to the opposition team’s Hastings Chapusha.
This was Bikita Minerals’ best scoring chance.
The Lithium Boys coach Arnold Jani coach felt that his side did enough to win the match.
“It was a very good match. We created the chances and dominated our opponents, but the strikers failed to score,” he said.
“We won possession very well, especially in the second half, but we did not finally execute for goals. This is an area where we are going to improve in the next game.”
Caps United coach Lloyd Chitembwe declined to comment.
