A ZIMBABWEAN businessman Tendani Sebata, with business interests in Botswana, has taken over the leadership of that country’s former Premier League champions Township Rollers.

Sebata, who is into transport (luxury coaches), security services and cargo handling, is the new Township Rollers president and was unveiled at the club in Gaborone on Thursday.

Rollers, in social media posts, said the businessman looked forward to taking the team to greater heights.

“It is with honour and humility that I get to lead Township Rollers FC, the most powerful and successful football club in Botswana,” Sebata said.

“I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the Rollers’ society for entrusting me with this monumental role for the club.

“I look forward to growing with the club and the supporters as I endeavour to take Rollers to even greater heights. I look forward to my tenure and bringing to life all the exciting plans we have for the club.”

Sebata will be at the helm at Rollers for the next five years, taking over from Jimmy Kereng of Prestige Parlours.

The Zimbabwean was welcomed to the club by chairman Phempheretlhe Bafana Pheto.

“I call on our supporters to warmly welcome Sebata and continue to support the club by registering for membership, attending games and buying available team merchandise. That is our contribution as a society. As Sebata invests in the team, we should support him by bringing revenue from the aforementioned,” Pheto said.

“We have gone into a five-year contract with Sebata, who will assume control of team operations supported by the Rollers executive committee and management.

“Sebata is passionate about football and has big plans for Township Rollers. In all the meetings we have been with him, Sebata says and does the right things to show that he has the best interests of Township Rollers.”

Club captain Simisani Mathumo said: “As the players, we stand ready to support and work with the new leadership. We are committed to the team and are looking forward to the new season, and promise that we will fight for honours.”
