TAKUDZWANASHE Kaitano smashed an unbeaten 200 to compound Knights Cricket Club’s misery as Rimuka Cricket Club cruised to a 323-run victory in a National Premier League (NPL) match at Old Hararians Sports Club yesterday.

Knights anchor the 14-team standings with no win in five matches.

The 31-year-old top order batsman now holds the record for the NPL’s highest individual score, beating Timycen Maruma, Takashinga Patriots 1 batman’s 160 scored last season against Golden Bulls.

Rimuka’s 323-margin victory is the second highest in the tournament’s four-year history after Takashinga Patriots 1’s 340 runs win against Bulls last year.

Knights won the toss and elected to field.

The decision partly paid dividends as they picked two wickets inside five overs following the dismissals of Rimuka openers.

Victor Chirwa was bowled by Tawananyasha Kasondo for one after 1.4 overs.

Terrence Makorondo followed immediately after, caught by Shayne Chigumbura for 10, leaving Rimuka reeling on 14/2.

However, Kaitano’s presence on the crease lifted Rimuka out of misery, starring in two half-century partnerships.

He added 84 runs for the second wicket with Nyasha Mayavo (25) and 60 runs with Luke Jongwe (27).

It was the 187-run partnership for the third wicket with Brendan Mavuta, who scored a 58-ball 83 that put Knights to the sword. Tashinga Musekiwa then faced just five balls for his unbeaten 11.

Rimuka then made light work of Knights, dismissing them for 61 runs inside 15.2 overs.

Chigumbura was the only Knights batsman to get double figures with his 25-ball 24 as Mavuta wreaked havoc with five wickets for 32 runs from eight overs, while Chirwa picked four wickets for 14 runs in 5.2 overs.
