THE National Federation of Zimbabwe Bodybuilding (NZBBF) have made strides in revolutionising the sport and the successful hosting of weekend's Novice Championships is testament to the association's quest for creating a competitive hub for the athletes.
The bodybuilding for beginners contest, Novice Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships, attracted a large pool of athletes from across the country featuring both men and women in Harare.
Harare's Fitlife Health Club athlete, Ddoros Adam, won the Women Wellness Development category beating into second place Fadzai Muponi of Chitungwiza's Act Dynamic Gym.
The Mr Novice title went to Jed Ansley of Harare's Body Active Gym who won the tightly contested Senior Men Bodybuilding category. Ansley also got the best poser gong while Carlton Phiri, the imposing hulk from Bulawayo's Bodyworks won silver medal in Senior Men Bodybuilding category. Tonderayi Manyika of Harare's Master J Fitness Body Fitness took bronze. NFZBBF’S general-secretary, Quiet Shangai, expressed satisfaction at the way the association's season opener turned out.
“I think we have been able to sustain a certain level of quality at Novice. We also been able to sustain certain standards in terms of our show design. Remember back in the day Novice was that show which would take place in a gym or some other venues which are very humble but now we have moved a gear up," Shangai told NewsDay Sport.
The Men's Physique Open was won by Elton Matakara of Harare's Metro Fitness. In second place was Bismark Ngarura of Gym Nation in Harare with Wilson Masvanise of Harare's Fitness First claiming bronze medal.
The Junior Men Bodybuilding contest was won by Simbarashe Muteiwa of Harare's Raylton Gym. Pride Chawadzimba of Team Biceps, Harare, took silver while the bronze medal went to Benjamin Varga of Harare's Profitness Health Club.
