ZIMBABWE are in line to host the CAVB Zone VI Men’s Volleyball All Africa Games Qualifiers in Harare by the Confederation of African Volleyball scheduled for January 20 to 30 next year.
The games serve as the last phase to select one team that will sail through to the 2024 All Africa Games to be hosted by Ghana in April.
Teams are pencilled to arrive in Harare for the do-or-die games on January 20. Preliminary and technical games will begin the following day culminating in a full-blown competing programme that is earmarked for January 22 to 30.
Zimbabwe were also awarded the right to host the CAVB Zone VI Nations Championships for both men and women in September. However, the project died a still birth after the invited nations pulled out of the friendly tournament citing financial constraints, among other issues. Zambia, Eswatini and Namibia had earlier confirmed to join hosts Zimbabwe in a revised four-team tournament in September.
The Zimbabwe Volleyball Association had hoped for a 20-team tournament.
This time a snub will be beneficial for the host.
“This time if the teams fail to come, Zimbabwe will have the ticket to the All Africa Games,” a source told NewsDay Sport.
Harare’s City Sports Centre is scheduled to host the indoor championships.

“All teams are responsible for their international and local travel shall be the responsibility of the host from hotel to games venue,” wrote CAVB secretary-general, Ringisai Mapondera, in a circular to Zone VI national federations.
“Each national federation will be allocated one referee per gender by the zone from the pool of international referees available to the zone in liaison with the respective national federations. The host will provide all other support officials, scorers, ball retrievers and the line judges.”
