Captain Sikandar Raza won the toss and surprised a number of people by choosing to bowl first and the struggles in the early parts of the innings proved by it might not have been the wisest decision.
Wellington Masakadza top scored for Zimbabwe with 40 runs from 47 balls after a top order collapse had pegged the hosts back.
Masakadza combined with Ryan Burl (38) for a seventh wicket partnership of 63 runs.
Clive Madander with 33 runs and Blessing Muzarabani who hit 11 were the only other batsmen that reached double figures.
At the top Joylord Gumbie was bowled out for 5 runs by Josh Little who eventually took six wickets.
