THE Harare Volleyball Premier League (HVPL) men’s champions, Non-Academic Bachelors Association (NABA) claimed the lion’s share in individual awards presented by the Harare Volleyball Association (HVA) at the University of Zimbabwe courts on Sunday.
NABA ruled the roost in the entire league, producing the most valuable player, an award which went to the magnificent server, Sharma Chikowore. Chikowore was also named best server of the season to wades.alk away with two accol
HVA chairperson Priestledge Nhamburo said the winners should make it a habit of getting better with each outing.
“I extend my warmest congratulations to the winners. Their remarkable skills, strategic play and exceptional performance have set a new benchmark for excellence,” he said.
“These victories are a testament to their perseverance, determination, and countless hours of training. May they cherish these triumphs and continue to strive for greatness in the seasons to come.”
The 2023 champions also bagged the best setter award won by Ronald Makombe, Charles Nyamasvi took the best attacker award while lion-hearted returner of the ball, Asher Chisadza collected the best defender award.
UZ Wolves’ Takudzwa Mashaka bagged the best blocker gong, while Black Mambas’ Prince Tsiga received the best receiver award to complete the list of men’s individual awards.
In the women’s category, UZ Wolves’ Melisa Marasha was named most valuable player and received the best blocker award as well. Support Unit women’s Esnath Chamanga took the best setter gong, Andile Ndlovu was adjudged best attacker. Manyame Falcons women also won two awards, best defender going to Lionette Taruvinga and Levenia Marange winning the best server award.

But what NABA can do, UZ Wolves can do better as the raging wolves collected four out of six awards in the End of Season Tournament. UZ Wolves beat NABA 3-2 in an entertaining season finale on Sunday and there was no denying them their moment in the sun.
Tanaka Hwara of UZ was named men’s most valuable player, Nigel Kadumba and Dean Mukusha walked away with the best setter and best opposite hitter awards, while Takudzwa Mashaka nicked the best blocker award as UZ Wolves reigned supreme.
NABA grabbed the best outside hitter award courtesy of Panashe Sangonya, while Black Mambas’ Tsiga took best libero award. HVA End of Season women’s champions, Support Unit replicated the same ability as the men’s champions by winning four individual awards.
Support Unit women took home the most valuable player award won by Chamanga who also took the best setter prize. Ndlovu won the best opposite hitter, Vimbai Chawasarira was the best outside hitter with UZ Wolves’ pair of Rutendo Mazarure and Celina Manickam winning the best blocker and best libero awards, respectively.
