Mushekwi is on the brink of scooping the Chinese top league Golden Boot after he registered his 17th league goal for his club Zhejiang Professional on Thursday.

Former Warriors striker Nyasha Mushekwi (36) who is defying age and continues to play at the top level has been linked with a move to the mega-rich Saudi Arabian topflight league.

Mushekwi is on the brink of scooping the Chinese top league Golden Boot after he registered his 17th league goal for his club Zhejiang Professional on Thursday.

His club is pushing for a Champions League spot and the 1-1 draw against Meizhou Hakka moved them to third position on the league table with two matches left in the season.

Zhejiang Professional were in danger of losing the match until Mushekwi intervened with nine minutes left on the clock.

He is now joint top goalscorer with Brazilian teammate Leonardo as he continues to push for the prestigious individual award.

According to KickOff, Mushekwi might not hang around to play for his team in the Champions League as he is being courted by teams in the mega-rich Saudi Arabia topflight league.

Mushekwi is already earning a fortune in the Chinese league and is one of Zimbabwe’s highest football earners, but he could be tempted by Saudi Arabia’s oil riches.

He only signed a new contract with his current club at the beginning of the year after scoring 18 goals for the club last season.

The former Caps United hitman is the club’s all-time top goalscorer with 69 goals having reached double figures for each of the last four seasons.

South African football magazine KickOff reported this week that a move is likely for Mushekwi at the end of this season.

“Whispers have suggested that there is interest from the Middle East where his earnings will be improved from what he is earning in China. The UAE and Saudi Arabia markets have been mentioned. If Mushekwi moves to the Middle East at the end of the year, he will follow on the foot tracks of Brazilian forward Marcao who top scored in the Chinese Super League in 2022 before moving to Saudi club Al Ahli in January,” the report read.

He also played in South Africa for Mamelodi Sundowns before he moved to Sweden where he represented Djugardens before the China move.

If he moves to Saudi Arabia, he will link up with former Warriors strike partner Knowledge Musona.

The Saudi Arabia league has been offering some of the highest salaries to players and has attracted top profiles that include five-time Ballon d’or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, former Liverpool Superstars Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane as well as Roberto Firmino to mention a few.
