RISING Zimbabwean golf star Kieran Vincent is high in confidence ahead of his participation in the Asian Tour Yeangder TPC Pro-Am tournament in Taiwan after he won the longest-drive competition held prior to the main event on yesterday.
The US$750 000 Yeangder TPC Pro-Am is scheduled to tee off tomorrow and conclude on Sunday at Linkou International Golf and Country Club.
Vincent won his maiden Asian Tour title in Vietnam early this season, becoming the first foreign player, since Pakistan’s Hamza Amin in 2014, to take the honours, thanks to a powerful 358 metres (394 yards) drive.
His drive was well clear of second placed Thailand’s Chapchai Nirat’s best effort of 335 metres (366 yards).
The 25-year-old Zimbabwean tied for a sixth place finish at the Shinga Donghae Open in Korea last week in shot rounds of 66, 71, 71 and 64 to cement his place on the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
It has been a good year for Vincent who has made US$465 652,28 in the 11 competitions he has taken part in on the Tour, thanks largely to his solitary win at the International Series Vietnam in April where he scooped the US$360 000 winners cheque.
Vincent is also ranked third on the International Series OOM standings, giving him a chance to emulate his brother Scott, who won last year’s International Series merit list and is now playing in the LIV Golf League for Iron Heads GC.
