Chidzambga bounces back at Warriors

Sport
Chidzambga, regarded as the most successful Warriors coach, had his last stint with the team at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

SUNDAY Chidzambga will take charge of the Warriors one more time after the Zifa Normalisation Committee yesterday named him to lead the hastily assembled national football team squad to take on Namibia in a match that will be part of Emerson Mnangagwa's inauguration at the National Sports Stadium this afternoon.

Mnangagwa was declared the winner in last week's disputed election, which has been roundly condemned by regional and international election observers.

Organisers of today's event have included the friendly match to try and lure the public to attend in their numbers.

Chidzambga, regarded as the most successful Warriors coach, had his last stint with the team at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

He will be assisted in today’s match by Sheasham coach Lizwe Sweswe.

The veteran coach immediately assembled an 18-men squad of locally-based players who were expected to report for camp last night after playing for their respective league teams.

Today's match is the first international match for the Warriors since FIFA lifted their suspension on Zimbabwe in June for government interference.

The Zifa Normalisation Committee is soon expected to name a substantive Warriors coach to take charge of the team in the World Cup qualifiers which begin in November.
