Alec Mudimu signs for Tunisian side

WARRIORS defender Alec Mudimu has resurfaced at Tunisian top-flight club Olympique Beja after severing ties with Welsh outfit, Flint Town United.

Mudimu has since started training with the club and his chances of getting picked for international duty in November’s Fifa World Cup qualifiers have been boosted by his team’s participation in the Caf Confederation Cup.

He signed a two-year contract with the club, having successfully completed his medicals last Thursday.

“We welcome our new player, the international player for the Zimbabwe national team Alec Mudimu. Born in 1995 and coming from the Welsh team Flint Town, he plays as a central defender,” the club wrote on its social media handles.

“The duration of Mudimu’s contract with the Olympique Beja is two seasons.”

Olympique Beja will play Libyan side Abu Salim at home on Sunday, but that match might come too soon for Mudimu, who is still finding his feet.

Beja finished seventh in the Tunisian topflight Championship league last term, 20 points behind winners Etoile Sahel and they will be hoping for better fortunes this time around.

Mudimu, who is 28, has a wealth of experience, having played at the Africa Cup of Nations finals and played club football in England, Georgia, Turkey, Moldova and Wales.

Zifa is on the prowl for a national team coach who is likely to be named before the end of the month and Mudimu will be looking to impress ahead of Zimbabwe’s return to international football.
