Ferenando and secretary-general Tinashe Duri’s mandates were extended having been uncontested and will work with a number of new faces in the executive committee.

ZIMBABWE Table Tennis Union (ZTTU) president Noah Ferenando was retained as the association’s boss during an elective congress held in Harare on Sunday.

Ferenando and secretary-general Tinashe Duri’s mandates were extended having been uncontested and will work with a number of new faces in the executive committee.

It has been a good couple of months for Ferenando after he was also retained as the vice-president of African Union Sports Council Region in Botswana last month.

Of interest is that ZTTU now has a female vice-president following the election of Bibiana Chacha from Bulawayo.

Welcoming his re-election and the historic coming on board of a female vice-president, Ferenando said: “I would like to thank all the stakeholders for showing their faith in me and also trusting the process that we started to take the sport further and where we have taken it so far. I was uncontested, all the provinces nominated me and it was a huge show of faith. I am excited and hopefully we are going to take the sport further.

“I am happy with the coming on board of the first female vice-president, ZTTU Bibiana Chacha from Bulawayo. It shows out commitment to dealing with gender disparities in our sport and the desire to give equal opportunities for men and women in the sport. We would love to see the differently abled having representation in the executive committee in future.”

Tarisai Murambinda won the race for the treasurer’s post, while Richard Shumba from Harare province takes over at the new national technical director and will be deputised by William Muchacha.

Robinson Chigede was elected the umpires’ chairperson with Alice Nyatsanga assisting, while former national champion Brian Chamboko and top female player Ashley Dhlamini make up the athletes commission.

Takudzwa Mudonhi from the ZTTU United Kingdom chapter is the new coaches chairperson.
