Caps United’s struggles continued yesterday after they were condemned to yet another defeat by Manica Diamonds at Gibbo Stadium.
With the sense of a stalemate seemingly settling in, Ralph Kawondera broke Caps United’s hearts with a brace right at the death.
Kawondera came in as a substitute ten minutes before the break which proved a masterstroke by Manica Diamonds coach Jairos Tapera.
First he breached Caps United’s defence with a volley with Talent Chamboko claiming an assist before completing his brace at the stroke of full time, to kill off any hopes of a Green Machine come back.
Both teams played some good passing game and from the start the match was full of life as they went at each other.
It was a frustrating afternoon for Caps United in the end especially because Clive Rupiya fluffed a good scoring opportunity which could have snuffed the life out of Manica Diamonds.

Green Machine coach Lloyd Chitembwe shared his disappointment at the end of the match.
“It’s very disappointing, I thought we had done enough to try and even win it. I am sure we had clearer opportunities than they had and I am disappointed. Clive could have done better, with proper calculation and precision he should have done better,” he told reporters
“In the second half we got another chance, but the striker was not decisive. If you miss these kind of opportunities usually it comes back to haunt you and they caught us on a counter.
“This is it and we should be able to dominate more on the ball like we have always done and even today I thought we did enough but the precision was not.”
Manica Diamonds coach, Tapera was full of praise for Kawondera.
“Wonderful performance from Kawondera, we were looking for someone who can make those kind of runs and he was the perfect man for us. He has been trying all along and today was his day. I am proud, I am happy for him and happy for the team.
“We will play each game as it comes and we try to win as many game as possible and we will remain doing that as we go forward,” Tapera said.
