Withdrawals dent Central Region Division One

THE Zifa Central Region has set April 15 as the kick-off date for the Region’s Ruvimbo Funeral Division One Soccer League following a number of withdrawals.

This time the league will comprise 14 teams.

In a statement, Ruvimbo Funeral Central Region Soccer League acting vice-chairperson Thomas Marambanyika revealed the 2023 season details.

“The season will start on weekend 15/16 April 2023. The league season end date will be communicated later as we are still negotiating one or two sponsors for cup games,” Marambanyika said.

“A total of 15 clubs paid affiliation fees, but Sharks Masters withdrew on Saturday after failing to register players citing financial challenges on part of the sponsor.

“This means we will have 14 teams in the league. The other clubs that pulled out citing financial challenges are Colombina FC, Paramount FC and Vumbachikwe FC.

“Note that late withdrawal of the clubs has affected their timely replacements. The fixtures will be released today (yesterday) and grounds inspections are underway. Administrators workshop was held on Saturday 1 April 2023, to prepare clubs for the new season,” he said.

A number of exciting fixtures are lined up for the opening week, with Chapungu facing newbies Amazon in Gweru.

FC Platinum Under-19 will kickstart their season with an away date to ZPC Munyati.
