Tagara re-elected into Confederation.

National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) president Tendayi Tagara was re-elected into the Confederation of African Athletics Council (CAA) committee at a meeting held in Durban, South Africa, last Saturday.

The elections saw Tagara attracting the highest number of votes after polling 24, followed by Namibia’s Erwin Naimhwaka with 16 votes.

This will be his second term in office as he has been part of the association since 2018.

Tagara promised to bring positive development in the country and also globally.

“I’m delighted to be re-elected for another four-year term and I owe this victory to the NAAZ executive and all athletics family members in Zimbabwe,” he said.

“People can see our results in providing coaches and officials of high quality to Africa and we have been one of the few countries in Africa who had outstanding athletes at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, the United States, which were held last year.”

Added Tagara: “I will continue to work hard for the development of the sport of athletics in Zimbabwe and in Africa at large so that Africa continues to be competitive globally.”
