Jumbos picked up the first prize of R5 000 and medals after edging CS Distributors 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out after the two sides had ended in a 1-1 deadlock in regulation time.

CS Distributors got R3 000 and medals as the losing finalists.

To get to the final, Jumbos had walloped Division Three side Casmyn 3-0 in the semi-final, while CS Distributors dismissed Division Two champions Ajax Hotspurs 1-0 to earn a place in the final.

Ajax then edged Casmyn 2-1 to win the third-place playoff and were rewarded with R1 000, while Casmyn took home R500. The tournament was played by the two top teams in Division Two (Ajax and Jumbos) and Division Three (CS Distributors and Casmyn).

Ajax were the champions in the Division Two league with 86 points from 34 games, while Jumbos had 76 points. The two sides await admission into the Zifa Southern Region Division One League.

CS Distributors amassed 76 points from 34 games, while Casmyn were on second place with 71 points.

Secretary of the Zifa Bulawayo Province Washington Sithole yesterday said the off-season tournament, which last year featured eight teams, was very exciting.

“It was a very exciting competition and the boys really played up to standard,” Sithole said.

Last year’s tournament was won by Sizani Fruit&Veg who beat Old Nic Mine 3-1.

Sizani, however, make a return to Division Two after they were relegated from Division One, while How Mine came position four in the Division Two League on 63 points, two behind third-placed FC Kombani Africa.

Zifa vice-president Ndumiso Gumede, chairman of Zifa Bulawayo Province Horace Ndubiwa and officials from football clubs in the region attended the tournament.
