LAGOS — Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo is set to equal Kanu Nwankwo’s record of six Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) appearances.
Report by Kick Off
Yobo, who has already overtaken Kanu as Nigeria’s most capped player with a record 89 appearances, has featured in the tournament on five occasions from 2002 to 2010, during which he managed to scoop four bronze medals.
But the 32-year-old centre-back has not set his mind on winning the Afcon trophy this time, in what might be his final appearance in the tournament for Nigeria.
“It’s not going to be easy (to win the trophy),” he says. “But we will give it our best shot. We, therefore, urge Nigerians to keep praying for us and believe in this team.”
Yobo will lead Nigeria in their warm-up match against Afcon debutants Cape Verde today.
