DYNAMOS prodigal son Evans Gwekwerere is in line for a sensational return to the team he acrimoniously dumped two years ago.

The striker quit the Harare giants in 2011 when they were preparing for the Champions League campaign and crossed the great divide to join bitter rivals Caps United. He blasted the club’s bosses on his way out for failing to pay players well.

However, the outspoken but talented player is back at Dynamos.

Gwekwerere was at Raylton Sports Club yesterday and fully participated in the league champions’ training session.

A member of the Dynamos technical team yesterday confided to NewsDaySport that they are willing to rope in Gwekwerere at the club again.

The source said the Keni Mubaiwa, led executive has already given a thumps up to the player’s return although the final say is said to lie with the all powerful club’s board of directors.

He said: “He is a talented player and any team would want to have him in their books. He just needs to improve on his discipline but overall he is a good player. He will add a lot of value to the team and we have recommended him to the executive and they don’t have any problem with it. The matter is now with the board of directors but it’s very likely that he will play for Dynamos next season.”

Gwekwerere left Dynamos in 2011 alongside players like Dylan Chivandire, Washington Arubi and Benjamin Marere – another player linked with a return to the club.

On quitting Dynamos, Gwekwerere, who claimed was owed $15 000 in signing on fees was quoted in the Press saying, “It is better for me to move because you cannot play football when you are not being paid. Football is my only source of livelihood.”

The nomadic striker, who has had stints with Jomo Cosmos and Moroka Swallows in South Africa, had been pushing for a move back to Dynamos since last year, but CAPS United blocked the move.

After the expiry of his contract late last year, Gwekwerere went to Botswana but failed to settle, prompting his move back home.

The technical team’s sudden interest on Gwekwerere could be the clearest sign that they have resigned on their pursuit to sign Hwange striker Francesco Zikumbawire.

Dynamos had registered the huge striker in their 25-men squad for the Caf Champions League but Hwange has slapped a $130 000 price tag on the player for a one-year loan deal. The Glamour Boys have described the price as “ridiculous.”

Meanwhile, Dynamos are still hopeful that they will get former Hwange defender and Zambian international Aaron Katebe despite reports linking him to FC Platinum.

The tall defender, who has reportedly agreed personal terms with Dynamos, was on Tuesday spotted at the Zvishavane-based club’s training session.
