FOUNDERS High School deputy head Nkosana Mlibazi and the acting schools inspector have embarked on the visual and performing arts project called The School Creative Response Ensuring Artistic Magnificence (S.C.R.E.A.M) that seeks to creatively explore and interrogate various responses to inculcate behaviour change through film.
Mlibazi, who is also an Award-winning arts educator, said he formed Langelihle Arts and they are targeting 15 schools in Bulawayo to curb the plethora of challenges brought by the proliferation and increased incidents of drugs and substance abuse associated with effects such as gangsterism, bullying at schools.
Some of these schools are Founders, Milton, Gifford, Nketa and Nkulumane high schools to mention a few. He said once these schools collaborate in film production, they would have dealt with the enmity rearing its ugly face in their minds.
“Langelitsha Arts is a multi-disciplinary arts organisation, it is primarily focused on youth engagement and artistic mentoring in theatre film and spoken word. It continues to provide platforms and opportunities for young people to creatively explore challenges affecting society by using various artistic conventions to tell their stories," Mlibazi said.
"It has produced thought provoking theatrical pieces that have been performed at Intwasa Arts festival, Child Fest, Mitambo International Arts Festival as well as Ibumba Arts festival. We want to be the leading youth arts development agency unlocking innermost creative potential in young people and vulnerable communities."
He said through mentorship by artists learners will be empowered to be at the forefront in providing positive alternatives to the menace associated with drugs and substance abuse using their shared experiences.
