CONTROVERSIAL Zim-dancehall artist Hwinza has refuted claims that he takes drugs and other substances.

The artist, who has attracted a bad boy tag due to his obscene lyrics denounced the claims as false in a radio interview on Star FM with DJ Ollah 7, last week.

“I am not into drugs and I have never taken drugs at any time,” he said.

Hwinza said he looks and sounds normal for a person, who takes crystal meth.

Crystal meth is the common name for crystal methamphetamine, a strong and highly addictive drug that affects the central nervous system. There is no legal use for it.

It comes in clear crystal chunks or shiny blue-white rocks. Also called “ice” or “glass,” it's a popular party drug. Usually, users smoke crystal meth with a small glass pipe, but they may also swallow it, snort it, or inject it into a vein. People say they have a quick rush of euphoria shortly after using it. But it's dangerous. It can damage your body and cause severe psychological problems.

The drug is known in Zimbabwean street lingo as Guka, Dombo or Mutoriro.

“If you look at me and listen to what I say and my views of life do you think I take drugs and is this how those who take dombo (crystal meth) speak or act? I don’t take dombo, but bute (snuff),” he quizzed the interviewer.

Hwinza went on to dramatically swear in Jesus Christ's name that he doesn’t take drugs.

“I come before Jesus Christ and say this again, I don’t take drugs and the claims that I do take drugs is a violation of my rights,” he said.

“Drugs don’t solve any problems; the solution to your problems comes when you are sober. The more you take drugs the more you kill yourself and your future.

“I will be an artist that the country will use to fight drug abuse, I have never used drugs and those who do drugs are not part of my circle and we don’t sing together.”

However, it is reported that an intoxicated Hwinza had attacked and damaged his girlfriend Malotti’s car after a misunderstanding before he went for the interview.
