INTERNATIONAL Master Rodwell Makoto is set to represent Zimbabwe at the FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championships 2024, taking place in New York City from December 26 to 31 this month.

This historic event marks the first time the championships will be held in North America, set against the iconic backdrop of Wall Street.

Makoto returns from a remarkable performance at the 45th Chess Olympiad, where his contributions were pivotal in securing a silver medal for the Zimbabwean team.

As the world’s top chess players gather in the heart of global finance, the upcoming competition promises to deliver an exhilarating experience for both participants and spectators.

The fast-paced formats of Rapid & Blitz chess require quick decision-making and exceptional mental endurance, making them favourites among players.

This is not Makoto’s first encounter with elite competition.
