ZIMBABWE captain Michael Wallace and Keegan Shutt put up a brilliant show on the second day of the All Africa Golf Team Championship after shooting 69 to help the country move into second place at Bulawayo Golf Club yesterday.
Zimbabwe, who began the day in fourth place, managed to record an overall 3-under par score in the second round to leapfrog Zambia and Uganda on 1-over at the end of day two.
South Africa continued to dominate the championship as they posted another impressive 7-under par team score in the second round to extend their lead at the top on overall 14-under par for the tournament.
Ivan Verster, who leads the individual standings, carded a second round 4-under par 68 to finish day on 7-under and is two shots ahead of compatriot Jordan Burnard who is one overall 5-under after shooting 3-under par yesterday.
Ugandan Joseph Akena, who was joint top after the first round on the individual standings managed 1-under par on the second day and is now tied for second along with Burnard.

Wallace’s impressive effort saw him rise up the individual ladder to a two-way for seventh on 1-under for the tournament, while Shutt is tied for ninth on 1-over par.
It was not a good day for Vincent Chidambazina, who starred for the hosts on the first day after he shot 76 in the second round to drop from fourth to 11th along with two other golfers.
The other team member, Kelvin Muchenje, had a much improved show after he carded
Zimbabwe coach Simon Murungweni was pleased with the way the team played on the second day.
“I think we are slowly getting into the tournament. Obviously we did start the way we wanted to but after chatting to the guys, we saw the mistakes they were making on the course and we improved on that,” he said.
Competition continues in the biennial continental championship today with Muchenje the first Zimbabwean to tee off at 9:22, with Chidambazina beginning his third round at 9:32 and Shutt at 9:42 as well as Wallace at 9:52 in the morning.
