TELONE coach Herbert Maruwa is pleased that the three-week Castle Lager Premier League break has come just after he has joined the club as it affords him time to learn more about the team.
The former Dynamos mentor took charge of the Wi-FI Boys a fortnight ago, replacing Tendai Chikuni who was dismissed over poor results.
It has not been rosy as they have gone for nine games without a win, something that has left them hanging in the relegation zone. They are 15th on the log standings with 12 points after 14 rounds of fixtures.
Maruwa has so far presided over two games, where they drew 1-1 with Ngezi Platinum Stars before losing 2-1 to Herentals. And he is concerned about his men's fitness level which he believes is at 70%.
“The break came at the right time. I’m having more time with the players, to know them more, their strengths and weaknesses,” he told NewsDay Sport.
“I need to know who will help us throughout the season and at the same time we need to have the right combinations, so that we can be up there.

“So the break is going to help us a lot. I’m worried with the fitness levels. We have played 14 games but in terms of fitness, we are around 70%.
“That is why you see the guys can score but they can’t last for 90 minutes. That is when I saw that there is a lot of work to do.
“After two weeks of the break, is when I am going to see who is going to stay or go. I need more time with them.
“It’s unlike last week when we played two games in a week after two days of training. For now, I’m still assessing them. We are in a bad patch but we need to improve the team,” Maruwa said.
